As a marketer, a Copywriter or a content writer there are some terms you need to know to speak like an expert without stutters.

1. Copywriting: is act of writing to persuasive words to sell.

Copywriting is the use of powerful words to promote, sell and persuade.

Think of all those TV commercials and online pop-ups.

Copywriting, unlike any other skills, is the most effective and most essential in any form of marketing especially online marketing.

Copywriting is seen in all form of marketing materials from Ads, landing pages, emails, websites, promotional videos to sales pages.


2. Content marketing: is a strategic approach to marketing that focus on consistently creating and distributing high valuable content across one or multiple platforms.

These contents must be inspiring, informative, educative and entertaining.

Their ultimate purpose is to attract, engage and convert a specific audience and drive a specific desire action.

Content Marketing can be seen in social media posts, YouTube videos, blogging, newsletter, email campaigns, and others.


3. A/B Testing: also known as Split Testing, is the process of testing two difference of a specific marketing materials while keeping everything else the same to determine which one works better with a specific audience.

Example is having two different CTA for one sales copy or social media post.


4. Call-To-Action: also CTA, is the specific desired action you want your specific audience to take.

You need to be very clear with this and make sure it is one action per marketing material. It might be signing up for a mailing list or Adding your product to cart.


5. Conversion Rate: is the number or percentage of your audience who actually follow through your Call-to-action and take the desired action.

It can refer to the number of leads, sales, followers, or as your marketing demands 


6. Return On Investment: also ROI, can only be determined after you know your conversion rate because it is the ratio that estimate your Marketing effort profits by comparing your revenue to cost.

A higher ROI means you've gain (in revenue) more than you've lost (in cost) so, the higher the better.


7.Unique Selling Proposition: also USP, is what make a brand, a product, or a service different than those of its competitors. It is short, simple and effective.

It gives you an edge in a competitive market, because it tells your audience what your brand, product, or service, is about and why you are different from anything else they've seen and why they should buy from you.


8. Keyword: is a specific word or phrase that your prospects can type in the search box when searching for a product, service or an industry information.


9. Keyword Research: is the process of using designated tools to search for words and phrases your prospects would most likely use when searching for you or when search for information about your like of brand, product or service.


10. Search Engine Optimization: also SEO, is the process of boosting your website's visibility (on search engine) in organic, unpaid search results.

This can be done by incorporating the right keywords, building great links and backlinks, publishing valuable and consistent content.


11. Landing Pages: usually not organically, are where traffic lands on your website. It has one goal; to get them to sign up or buy.

Landing pages are always use to convert paid traffic.


12. Opt-in pages: are landing pages that are specifically for getting traffic (or users) to sign up or drop their contact details. 

The users would do this to get free guide, webinar, discount and other free gifts.


13. Squeeze pages: are more limited and goal focused opt-in page, they don't have any other navigation button and only have a place for users to sign up and enter their email address.


14. Lead Magnet is simply anything of value that you can exchange for a prospect’s contact information – usually an email address.

You need a Lead Magnet because it makes marketing easier and more effective.


15. Lead: someone you whom you have an ability and permission to follow up via email, direct messaging or even call.

But most times in sales, a lead is your potential customers regardless of whether or not you've contacted them before.


16. Lead Nurturing: Begins after you've gotten your leads' contact details and permission to follow up. 

This can also be called relationship-building. Lead are nurtured through providing valuable yet relevant content that are delivered in series and sequences.


17. Risk reversal: also Guarantee, 

is a statement that assures your prospects that you would be bearing the risk of their purchase through a refund, a return policy, or an exchange.


18. Word of Mouth: 

is a marketing strategy that relies of using social interaction and conversation to promote a product or service, because people trust people they know more than brands they don't know.


19. Bounce rate: 

is the percentage of visitors that close a site after check only one page because they didn't find what they are looking for so choose to click out, instead of navigating to learn more.
